Chapter Six

Zeno

The interior designer wilts as I inspect her work.

I had to find the client she had scheduled and work my magic to become her next paying customer instead. I don’t have time to wait one year for a consultation. My darling and I don’t have the patience to wait that long for our dream home.

I gave Mrs. Griffin all our specifications that are catered to fit Petra. I’m aware of my darling’s taste in fashion, and it’s a disgrace.

I love her very much, but I won’t spare her feelings.

“What about this color,” Petra says, pointing to the color wheel.

“It’s terrible,” I admit.

She huffs with an adorable pout. “Then you pick!”

“We’re here for you,” I counter tersely.

“You don’t like anything I pick,” grumbling about my stubbornness.

I would like to be home with my darling on my lap, but I can’t deny the loveliness of her exasperation. Her blush has spread down to her chest and up to the tips of her ears.

“I have made suggestions, but you don’t like them,” I remind her, grinning.

She sniffles and scoffs. “I can’t pronounce half of them.”

“You don’t need to as long as the suggestions are useful,” I rebuke.

“We sure don’t need rocks.” Petra laughs behind her small hand.

“It’s for our sauna,” I insist while giving the fidgeting designer an impassive glance.

It was an endearing moment when Petra discovered our beautiful sauna. She thought she had entered a new dimension and couldn’t believe what she saw.

My work as a blackmailer is stressful. Others use golf to relieve stress, but I prefer to fuck my darling in the steaming heat.

I want to snatch her virginity as her body burns with a damp sheen.

“I have an idea,” Petra quips happily while rearranging the last pieces on the table. “What about this?”

I scan the designs she picked out and am not surprised that it’s an atrocious combination.

Her wide smile, beautiful and hopeful, warms my cold heart.

“No,” I reject.

I relish my vile glee as her sad frown forces her lips to quiver. She searches for sympathy in my perfect façade. I wouldn’t be a successful blackmailer if I couldn’t offer a simple smile.

“No?” she asks again, “It looks good.”

It does not. My joy comes at her expense; she’s rightfully upset, but I’ll never stop bringing tears to her eyes.

She’s mine. There is nothing wrong with what I’m doing. It’s my way of conveying my fondness for her and loving her in an unorthodox way. Everyone has their language of love; mine just happens to be contemptible.

Petra was just beginning to understand that before the amnesia struck her. I wasn’t sure whether I should laugh or destroy things, but it gave me a second chance to either use a different approach or reinforce my original tactics.

“Then, it’s settled,” I say and push the hideous combination towards Mrs. Griffin.

“Wait!” Petra shouts, pulling the items back.

The designer flinches from shock and pulls her hands back as if my darling had assaulted her. Her attention moves to me, gauging my reaction and silently waiting.
